A loud screech broke across the night and suddenly an all-black Dodge Charger cut out into the intersection up ahead and stopped, blocking Myles path. Myles stopped running and struggled to catch his breath. He looked to his left and right, searching for any way out, but with the group pursing him from behind, the car now blocking his path ahead, and no accessible side roads, it was check mate for the author.

The rear, driver’s side door opened up and a man climbed out. He was average height with short brown hair and a noticeable scar that ran from just below his left eye, across his nose, and stopped dead center on his right cheek. He was wearing suit pants, dress shoes and a maroon dress shirt and had a black pistol pointed straight out towards Myles in his right hand.

“Get in the car, before they get you,” the man said. Myles didn’t respond. “Hurry up!”

Myles jolted and ran forward past the man and leapt through the door of the car. It was arranged much more like a limo, with a seating surrounding the frame of the car, and an opening in the middle. It wasn’t incredibly spacious, but made use of what was normally a Charger’s trunk, and seated four people easily in a more logical way. There was one other person inside the car, a rather bloodied and bruised person, in the seat furthest from the door. Myles slid into the seat across from him and avoided eye contact.

Behind Myles, the man from outside climbed in and shut the door.  “Mickey; The Bailey,” he said, then he looked over at Myles, his chocolate brown eyes suddenly warming and calming Myles instantly. “You okay?”

As the car jolted to life, Myles ran a hand over his body. “I’m alive.” He started with a small chuckle and then broke out into full, joyous laughter. “Damn that was exhilarating! I thought I was gonna die!”
