In a Different Skin by Jasmine Carroll

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

eBook Seeks to Open Minds About Life in a Different Skin

Minneapolis, Minnesota – February 19, 2017 – New flash fiction author, Jasmine Carroll, releases an eBook with a collection of her short stories called, In a Different Skin.

Carroll is a new author looking to change the face of literary normalcy by creating stories that challenge her audience’s way of thinking and make minority groups mainstream. She does so intentionally by forming scenarios that put the reader in the shoes of an individual from a ethnicity, sexuality, or gender that is otherwise seen as the ‘other’ to help them better understand the plight of someone different from themselves.

These stories bring readers into new circumstances and gives them a look into what it’s like to have experiences different from their own.

The eBook, which will contain three of Carroll’s recently written pieces, will go on sole on Smashwords December 10th, 2100.

Bigfoot, Because I’m Black and If You Want Something Done Right, are three pieces with themes of misunderstood cultures, colorful characters and being face to face with death.

Bigfoot is about a hoity toity man, Mr. Grawson, on his way to a fancy convention when his car breaks down on an often ignored stretch of highway, far away from the hustle and bustle of every day society. Though he would sooner ignore all those around him, it’s an option he quickly loses when a particularly strange man comes to his ‘rescue.’

Stereotypes and the culture of police and people of color are challenged in Because I’m Black, a tale written based on Carroll’s own experience with law enforcement as a woman of color. A supposedly regular traffic stop could turn fatal when two ends of the spectrum clash.

If You Want Something Done Right is a mystery about family man, Carlton Johnson, who suddenly awakens to find himself bound and gagged in a car. Originally believing himself to just be another victim without cause, his captors slowly reveal that there’s a reason he’s been chosen instead of others.

Though the stories do have traces of comedy within them, the collection is inherently dark and is best suited to older audiences.

With her book, Carroll hopes to broaden the horizons of her readers and get them thinking about the nuances of the life of a minority. With her sci-fi and fantasy literary style backdropping her tales, readers can expect a journey into the mind of others and situations that are just strange enough to be entertaining, but real enough to be relevant.
